About me, Tyler Tafelsky

Hello and welcome to my freelance SEO website! My name is Tyler Tafelsky, and I am a search marketing professional based in Northern Michigan. In addition to working as a freelance SEO consultant and content strategist, I am a husband, Dad, traveler, and outdoor adventure seeker (sometimes all of the roles at once).

I have been working in the SEO space since 2009 in various capacities, starting as an SEO copywriter for a local agency and working my way up to Director of Content Strategy for a leading consulting firm.

Today, I work exclusively as an SEO freelancer and independent contractor, supporting small businesses, large enterprises, and other SEO agencies with my skill sets.

In short, I provide agency-caliber SEO solutions at a fraction of the cost that most agencies charge. I am passionate about helping my clients scale their business organically through helpful content and improved visibility across search channels, whether the mechanism is SEO, PPC, or AI.

In 2022, I met my wife, Elizabeth, and three years later, we eloped in Peru! We’ve traveled all over the world, from Alaska to South America, and taken many road trips in between. In 2025, we moved into our newly built home just outside of Traverse City, Michigan.

As of today, we are expecting to welcome our son, Zephaniah, into the world later this summer. It’s an exciting time for us as we prepare to be parents and build our life together.

My Professional Background

Over the course of my career, I’ve worked in various SEO capacities. For a quick resume-at-a-glance, below is a brief timeline of my professional background in SEO:

  • SEO Copywriter: Immediately graduating from Western Michigan University with a marketing degree in 2009, I landed a job as an SEO copywriter at Peak Positions in Traverse City.
  • Internet Marketing Manager: A web design shop, Online Innovative Creations (OIC) Group, Inc., poached me from Peak Positions to serve as their Internet marketing manager. Here, I evolved my expertise in PPC advertising and integrated digital marketing campaigns.
  • Senior SEO Specialist: Chris Everett, my friend and colleague from OIC Group, branched out and started his own company, Captivate Search Marketing, an SEO agency based in Atlanta. There, I worked with him and his team for several years, spearheading client campaigns.
  • Chief Technology Officer (CTO): I always wanted to bring my search marketing experience in-house and help scale a business. I landed that opportunity with Bearclaw Bicycle Co., where I ran all facets of the company’s marketing and technology. I still race for Bearclaw’s cycling team til this day.
  • Director of Content Strategy: Alongside my work with Bearclaw, I began a contractor position at the Gray Dot Company, which later turned into a full-time role. It was a rewarding experience working with the upper echelon of the world’s SEO community.
  • Freelance SEO Consulting: In 2023, I branched off on my own to work as a freelance SEO consultant with a focus on content strategy and organic growth. Today, I maintain this role while running a few side-hustle blogs.
